Ask the students to analyze how the grammar of the narration affected their reading of the story.Ultimately, this is a novel that everyone, regardless of age, must pick up and read as it will undoubtedly impact their lives for the better. Todd’s poor grammar, while at times discomforting, ultimately put me even further into my vision of Todd and his world, much to the prowess of Patrick Ness. I also enjoyed Todd being our narrator (though unreliable at times) and that Ness allowed us to see the story through the eyes of this self-conscious and tortured twelve-year-old boy. Some thoughts (like many of Todd’s) were disorganized and chaotic, whereas others (like the mayor’s) were more clear and concise. I loved the way that Ness showed the characters’ thoughts on the page. It contains so many themes (such as racism, sexism, and freedom of religion) that grow and develop so eloquently together throughout the series that it baffles me that this is a YA novel. This series is so powerfully written and was penned masterfully by Ness. I could not resist the urge to immediately buy the second and third books in the series as I had become so invested in the characters and the story, I had to know how it ended.

Ness pulled me into the New World and made me feel like I was running through the woods with Todd and Viola, meeting Hildy, working in Farbranch, and fighting Aaron.

I love this book series, and that is all because of how great The Knife of Never Letting Go is. Review: Whenever anyone asks me for a book recommendation, this is my go-to. These two form an unbreakable bond and journey across the New World together in an effort to save Prentisstown and uncover the many secrets held within, all the while being tailed by the wicked mayor and the dastardly preacher who mean them nothing but harm. Early on this journey, however, Todd encounters one of the biggest surprises of his life - a girl. With this warning, Todd and his dog, Manchee, narrowly escape their untimely demise. Prentisstown resident Todd Hewitt is on the verge of becoming a man on his thirteenth birthday, but his parents tell him he must leave town immediately. And that everyone can read each others’ thoughts (known as Noise). Summary: Prentisstown is a town like any other - except for the fact that all of the women mysteriously died eleven years ago.
